We’ve already gone through the basics of the upcoming Workshop system and as part of our massive coverage of the new module, I’d like to talk about the new profession vendors and exchange system today. Especially the latter needs some attention as players can actually prepare for the new system by stocking up old resources. Additionally a new vendor plays a vital role in upgrading your workshop. So let’s get started!
Professions Merchant
First of all we’ll look at the classic Professions Merchant that is still located inside the Seven Suns Coster Market. It still sells very basic resources and tools for gold, but now obviously has changed its wares to the new stuff. The tools you can get are only good to level up and the you can likewise only buy resources for up to level 30-ish recipes. For higher-ranked stuff players need to use their new Gathering Profession. It’s still a good option to fast-track the first levels in case you are already using your task slots for something else or don’t want to spend Workshop Morale (aka AD) for instant completions. But be warned that gold is becoming an important currency and buying the resources is much more expensive than the commissions for the corresponding gathering tasks.
South Sea Trading Company
The South Sea Trading Company is a new vendor located at the Tarmalune Auction House. Players can trade in profession products for a new “commission” currency. This currency is used to upgrade your Workshop. It’s a similar system to Rank 4 Masterworks that requires players to craft a certain amount of items to be able to progress. Players can exchange a wide range of items from all professions and higher-level recipes net more currency. Right now it’s hard to tell what makes most sense, but I would personally prepare a spreadsheet or two to calculate the best values here.
Asset Exchange
In the Workshop you’re able to exchange stuff from the old professions system to the new one. Pretty much anything that’s obsolete can be turned into something usable. Old assets and workers turn to “Asset Exchange Credit” that you can buy new tools and Artisans with. The best way to get exchange credit is through old craftspeople that grant 20,000 credit. Epic tools only add 5,000. Don’t get confused by the way. Your old workers disappear and are replaced with credit vouchers. Please also note that Leadership assets net four times as much credit. This is by design since those currently are also more valuable on live.
You only need under 100,000 credit to buy all the relevant tools from the shop, but extra credit can net you additional Artisans. For 200,000 credit you get the same package that’s going to be available on the ZEN Market. It generates a random Artisan application. It’s not exactly cheap, but really nice to jump-start your Workshop. It’s hard to say whether stocking up on old assets now and buying Artisans through the exchange will be cheaper than the ZEN price however. But those that do own a nice amount of craftspeople can use them in a meaningful way and shouldn’t sell them on live.
Resource Exchange
Resources work in the same way. All obsolete resources from professions can be turned in for exchange credit. The more valuable the resources, the more credit they grant. Unlike the common Professions Merchant the new materials you can buy are not limited to low level ones. You can indeed buy everything 1-70 on the exchange. This means that stocking up on old resources can save you some gold in Module 15 because you won’t likely need to run that many Gathering tasks in the first weeks or even months. So if your guild has some Stronghold vendors, you might want to invest Guild Marks into higher tier resources.
Don’t go all in however. Just like tools the exchange provides a jump-start, but it’s not able to supply you forever. One disadvantage for example is the lack of “High-Quality” resources that are needed to upgrade your Workshop.
Legendary Tools
The exchange for legendary tools is straight up. For one legendary old tool you get a new one of your choice. We’ll have a separate article on tools soon, but as things stand right now legendary ones are no longer the best option to craft items. Which is why I definitely wouldn’t is rush the exchange process until you have figured out the new system. Otherwise you might bang your head into some walls because you exchanged your legendary tool for something that’s not super useful.
That’s the preview on the new vendors and the exchange system. Do you plan to stock up old profession items or will you just roll with what you have? Share your thoughts and experience on our social channels, in the comments below, or visit our message board!
